ince 1885, our independent family owned and operated funeral home has been gratefully providing funeral services for more than a century.

Our History

Pinkel Funeral Home is one of the oldest funeral homes in New Jersey. It was established in 1885 by G. Edwin Pinkel. In the 1920s, Mr. G. Edwin Pinkel handed the business down to his son, Claude. After Claude Pinkel’s death in 1956, Mrs. Pinkel sold the business to John Voellmicke. Upon his retirement, John Voellmicke selected Peter P. Horvath to continue the operation of Pinkel Funeral Home. In 1993, Peter’s daughter, Alexis joined the funeral home after graduating from Mt. Ida College – New England Institute of Funeral Service. Both Peter and Alexis Horvath hold New Jersey and Pennsylvania funeral director’s licenses.

Our Facilities

At a time of mourning, you need all of the comfort and care you can get. This is why we have remodeled and expanded our building and facilities.

The interior has been completely designed to offer every available convenience. Soft and soothing décor, along with spacious chapels and sitting areas, create a comforting atmosphere.

During our expansion, we made every effort to retain the historic design, structure, and sentimental mementos of the building, which was originally constructed in 1849 for the Farmer’s National Bank. It is a charming landmark treasured by us and other local citizens.

Our Services

Having serviced our community for generations, we realize the importance of offering a wide range of options including traditional burial services, cremation services and environmentally green funeral arrangements.

Our options allow each family to select a high quality service that is affordable. When counseling a family on planning a funeral, we make sure that they are aware of all costs.

Please feel free to consult us about any concern that you may have. There is no cost or obligation involved in either a telephone conversation or meeting. We will be pleased to answer any questions that you may have concerning matters such as Veterans and Social Security benefits, Medicaid, death away from home and pre-need funeral arrangements.
